Description
TRDL 2011 Series, No. 38 - Edgar Allan Poe
This was done for the TRDL R3 Jam on the R3 Forum and the group, the subject being: Edgar Allan Poe.
I don't do a lot of surrealist pieces, but I had a blast with this one. I wanted to draw a classic bust of Poe, but where he has become synonymous with the Raven to the point where there is no distinction between the man's visage as we know it today and the imagery of that poem. There are several easter eggs in this piece. A few, but not all, include: the raven, obviously, but also, the locket design incorporates the corpse head from Cask (well, AFTER that poem, obviously) and three tumblers from an early nineteenth century cipher machine, as Poe was obsessed with cryptography. There are at least three other easter eggs in there, but I'll leave them up to you to find.
