TRDL - Spazierend Panzer Type c by TRDLcomics TRDL - Spazierend Panzer Type c by TRDLcomics
TRDL 2012 Series, No. 05 Spazierend Panzers Type C [TRDL Commission]

Part 3 of 4

This was one of three mecha designs developed for one of my long-term clients for his original supers gaming universe. Think WWII-era mecha. We put a lot into debating how to give modern mecha design an old-timey feel appropriate for the 40s based largely on German artillery, tank and other equipment designs. It was a fun project, and I actually went to the library for the first time since college (14 years or so!) though ultimately most of my refs came from the supernet after all.
The Spazierend Panzer Type C is the heaviest mecha class in this series. The shoulders support massive missile pods and the mouth is equipped with twin 20mm cannons. The arm carries an 88mm cannon. Yipe!

Thank you! My mecha love started with discovering Macross through Robotech. Then a healthy obsession with manga and anime through high school and college. That was late 80s through mid-90s. These days, I'm most inspired by Masamune Shirow's work, so any powered armor in my TRDL Universe stuff you find will be more along that vein.

You came to mecha the same way that I did. Robotech, learning it was three different series from Japan.....it was all down hill there for me. I graduated in 89 so the preceding years were my "formative" mecha/anime years. Fund Shirow early on through the manga Black Magic M66 in about 83 84(?)....loved his stuff and Miyazakis' ever since.

It was a lucky time to grow up here int he US, as more anime was being ported over than just Voltron and TranzorZ and Battle of the Planets back in the day...
