TRDL 2014 Series, No. 04 - Princess Aouda [Around the World in 80 Days]
This one was done for the R3 Art Challenge, the subject being the genre theme 'The Lost World'. While the jam was primarily focused on the exotica of pulp stories featuring western adventurers exploring wild, new environments, I took inspiration from some of Jules Verne's less fanciful work. Around the World in 80 Days was, in my opinion, certainly a story that fit this genre, because the concept of rapid transglobal travel, chockablock with exciting adventures, was a new and thrilling thing. Princess Aouda has been visualized in many different ways in projects over the years, but I was inspired by the classic film version as far as the costuming went, specifically because I liked the white, light blue and gold against a much darker Indian skin tone I planned for her. No offense to the luscious young Shirley Maclaine.

The result is beautiful! But now I want to revisit the Shirley Maclaine version 😎
